Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool side became the first side to score two or more goals in 16 consecutive games in all competitions in 82 years. The Reds achieved the feat after their 2-0 Champions League victory over Porto. The last side to achieve this was Wolverhampton Wanderers in the wake of World War 2, while only one other team has maintained a longer streakā€”Sunderland in 1927 with 17 games.

Liverpool started their historic 16-game run in September this year after a 3-0 win over Leeds United. The streak hasn't been all smooth sailing, however, and scoring two or more goals in one game does not guarantee any team a win. Liverpool faced some bumps on the road, such as their 2-2 draw with Manchester City, 2-2 draw with Brighton, and 3-2 loss to West Ham United, all in the Premier League.

Speaking after the match, Jurgen Klopp acknowledged the difficulty of the recent Porto game and admitted that his side could have lost this one as well. Via Liverpool Echo:

ā€œWe could have lost this game, we gave chances away where they should have scored,ā€ said the Reds boss. That would have made the game difficult, we were lucky in moments. We have our moments where we are really not cool to play against, thatā€™s true. I didnā€™t expect that tonight really because we changed decisive things, to be honest.ā€

The win made it five-in-five for Liverpool in the Champions League, and it means they maintain their 100% record coming into the final game of the group stage. Next up, however, they face 13th place Southampton in the Premier League looking to hopefully extend their record to 17 consecutive games.
