Why Luka Doncic Will Hit the Over

Doncic has been on fire since the postseason began. Significantly, it all started in the Western Conference Quarterfinals against the Los Angeles Clippers. Doncic started that series on a great note, getting 33 points in Game 1 and 32 in Game 2. Additionally, he had 35 points in Game 5 to cement a monster victory in front of the Clippers' faithful in Los Angeles. Doncic finished that series by averaging 29.8 points per game.

Doncic then had a mostly positive series against the Oklahoma City Thunder in the Western Conference Semifinals. After starting slow in Game 1, he had 29 points in Game 2. Doncic helped the Mavs take control of this series in Game 5 with 31 points. Finally, he helped put them away in Game 6 with 29 points. Doncic averaged just 24.6 points per game in a series that saw much more defense than offense.

But when it was time to play the Minnesota Timberwolves in the Western Conference Finals, there was a lot more on the line. Substantially, many believed the Wolves would handle the Mavs. It lit a fire in Doncic as he scored 33 points in Game 1. Next, he added 32 points in Game 2 before putting 33 in Game 3. Doncic still had 28 points in the loss in the Game 4. Eventually, he led the close-out victory as he managed 36 points in Game 5. Doncic averaged 32.4 points per game in that series.

Doncic did what he had to do to overcome a tough Minnesota team. Amazingly, his shooting from the triples went overdrive in the Western Conference Finals. Doncic went 3 for 10 in Game 1. Next, he went 5 for 11 in Game 2 and Game 3. Doncic continued his hot shooting from long distance as he went 4 for 11 in Game 5 and 6 for 10 in Game 6.

Doncic will hit the over because the chance to win the Larry O'Brien Championship trophy will ignite the fire in him and motivate him to do even more. Ultimately, he is one of the best players in the NBA and will do everything possible to showcase it to the world.

Why Luka Doncic Will Hit the Under

Doncic only hit the over once over three series. Moreover, his stats were generally simply against the Clippers and Thunder. Doncic hit 30 points in half of the six games against the Clippers. However, he had 22 points in Game 3, 29 in Game 4, and 28 points in Game 6.

But Doncic also had some off games against the Thunder. Substantially, he had 19 points in Game 1 and 18 in Game 4. Doncic hit 31 points just once in the series while getting 29 twice. While he will score plenty of points, the line is incredibly high for him. It means he may fall just short because of one bad game. Furthermore, the Celtics have a solid defense that will be doing everything possible to make it difficult for him.

Doncic will hit the under because averaging 31 points against this defense is incredibly challenging. Thus, he may fall short because he won't be able to hit some of the metrics.

Final Luka Doncic Points Per Game Prediction

Doncic is probably the best player left in the NBA Finals. Yet, everyone knows the Celtics will do everything to key in on him. Because of that, Doncic may have a few games where he scores 30 points. Conversely, there will be some games where he struggles, and other Mavericks have to step up. Expect Doncic to have a great series. Regardless, he will be more likely to finish short of 30.5 points per game while still making it close, with 29.5 or 30 being a likely target. Doncic hits the under.
