The Orlando Magic recently won the first overall pick in the 2022 NBA Draft. The Magic were certainly satisfied with the Draft Lottery results, but their first overall selection could signal the end of the Mo Bamba era in Orlando.

The Magic are expected to take one of Chet Holmgren, Jabari Smith, or Paolo Banchero in the 2022 NBA Draft. Each of them plays in the post which has reportedly made Mo Bamba ponder his future with the team as he prepares for free agency. It has also made people around the NBA wonder if it is time for Bamba and Orlando to part ways, per Jake Fischer.

“The idea of incorporating Smith or Holmgren into Orlando’s rebuild has sparked an expectation among league personnel that Bamba, a restricted free agent this summer, is likely to depart the franchise.”

The Magic have been in a continuous state of rebuilding. It has become clear that Mo Bamba is not the answer in Orlando. They need a star who can help steer the direction of the franchise in a positive direction. Someone like Chet Holmgren or Jabari Smith could potentially accomplish that goal.

Holmgren stands out as a potential star. He is an excellent shot blocker with impressive offensive skills. The main concern is physical strength, as the 7-foot center features a lanky frame. Nonetheless, scouts believe that Holmgren possesses an extremely high ceiling. The Magic could very well decide to spend their first pick on the Gonzaga product.

Whether Orlando takes Holmgren, Smith, or Banchero, it appears as if Bamba will leave the Magic this summer barring unforeseen circumstances.
