Manchester United star Bruno Fernandes is having himself quite the Tuesday. After scoring a stunning brace and clinching Portugal's ticket to the 2022 World Cup in a 2-0 win over North Macedonia, Fernandes is set to return to Manchester with a juicy new contract awaiting him at Old Trafford. According to Fabrizio Romano, Fernandes is expected to sign a new deal with the Red Devils to keep him in Manchester through June 2027.
Romano reports that Fernandes' new five-year deal has been fully agreed upon and is just awaiting the Portuguese superstar's signature. This is a major coup for Manchester United as they've successfully locked down one of their key attacking players and best midfield orchestrator for the next half-decade. His current deal has him under control until June of 2025, but the club managed to tack on a couple more seasons to his deal.
Talk about a great day for Bruno! The Portugal international single-handedly lifted his team over North Macedonia to secure World Cup qualification. He's now set for a brand new contract which will surely make him one of the top earners at the club, and therefore world football.
Many Manchester United players face uncertain futures. Multiple stars including Cristiano Ronaldo, Edinson Cavani, and Marcus Rashford have been linked with moves away. Despite that, the club managed to keep a critical piece of their attacking identity in place for the long haul with the new deal for Fernandes.
Since joining Manchester United in 2019, Fernandes has featured in 78 Premier League matches for the club, scoring 35 goals and providing 25 assists. He joined the club from Sporting CP in 2020 for a fee of $69.3 million.
