Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney is positive Cristiano Ronaldo’s return to Old Trafford is perfect for the club.

The English Premier League was stunned when news broke that Cristiano Ronaldo has finally decided to re-join Manchester United after more than a decade.

Ronaldo’s shocking move has become one of the hottest subjects in the sport these past few weeks and Wayne Rooney, who played six seasons alongside the Portugal captain, was among the latest to share his thoughts on the matter.

According to Rooney, now that Manchester United has a world-class player in Ronaldo, the club could finally compete for the title, a feat Red Devils manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has yet to achieve since being on board.

“An enormous one, I think [Ronaldo] he’s still one of the best players in the world,” Rooney exclusively told talkSPORT ahead of Derby County’s upcoming clash against Birmingham. ”I think United are finally ready to go and challenge for the title, and I really feel they have to this year.”

As for what Ronaldo could bring to the table, Rooney is certain his former teammate will surely “score a lot goals.”

“[Ronaldo’s] going to be a big player, I think he’ll have very big moments in the season and I’m sure he’ll score a lot of goals,” the Derby County manager predicted.

Moreover, the five-time Premier League champion also stressed that aside from scoring, the young Manchester United squad could also benefit from Ronaldo’s winning mentality.

“I follow Manchester United, I want them to do well, and I think it’s great for them that they’ve brought Cristiano back,” he explained. “I think his mentality will rub off on the younger players especially, so I think it’s great timing.”
