Manchester United defender Raphael Varane limped off with an apparent injury on Tuesday against Atalanta and it appears he will miss time once again with a hamstring issue. The Red Devils offered clarity on the Frenchman's health on Wednesday:

This is definitely a huge blow to Manchester United's backline. Varane, when at full strength, has been the first-choice center-back pairing with Harry Maguire this term. He was previously sidelined due to injury and essentially just returned to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's starting XI.

The France international has made nine appearances for the club since his summer move from Real Madrid, with United conceding nine goals during that span. With the international break coming up, Varane will miss a historic Manchester Derby this weekend against City and likely be absent against Watford and Villarreal after club action returns. Manchester United faces rivals, Chelsea, at the end of November, but that may be too soon for Varane to return as well.

The Red Devils rescued a last-gasp point in Bergamo on Tuesday thanks to the brilliance of Cristiano Ronaldo once again. The talisman scored a brace and fired home a breathtaking strike at the death to give United a much-needed draw on Champions League matchday 4.
