Last week, Manu Ginobili revealed via his blog that he will be returning for a 15th NBA season:
“The most important news to tell you is I am determined to continue playing in the NBA… I definitely want to continue enjoying the basketball a little more”.
The 14-year, 39-year-old veteran is still contributing to the Spurs' stat sheet. Last season, he played in 58 games, averaging just under 20 minutes with an impressive 9.6 points, 2.5 rebounds, and 3.1 assists per outing.
Jeff McDonald reported that Giobili’s agent, Herb Rudoy, made it clear that Manu wants to finish his career where it started in San Antonio, but it would need to be on agreeable terms of both sides.
“Obviously, his first choice is to come back to the Spurs if we can put together a good deal,” Rudoy said. “If you look around the league, there is a lot of money going around for lesser players than Manu. Manu is very aware of what the market looks like, and the Spurs are very aware.”
Last week, it was announced that he declined to exercise a $2.9 million option for next season, and as such, became an unrestricted free agent.

Given the huge money being thrown around in this summer’s free agency (As of Saturday, 29 free agents had agreed to contracts worth an estimated $1.8 billion), it is not unreasonable for Ginobili to test the market.
He is definitely putting up better stats and efficiency then some of this week's free agency pickups, but his age, injuries, and limited playing time will certainly come into consideration for any team assessing his value.
In a league where changing teams now seems like the normal career process, it would be nice to see the Spurs champion finish up in San Antonio. Let’s hope that they can do a deal.
