The Florida Atlantic Owls are flying to their first-ever appearance in the Sweet 16 following a thrilling 78-70 win over the Fairleigh Dickinson Knights Sunday night. It was a second-round matchup an extremely few people could honestly say they saw coming. Neither head coaches of these teams also expected the manner with which the game would conclude — with a missed dunk attempt that went against a well-known unwritten basketball rule.

After a missed 3-pointer by FDU's Demetre Roberts near the end of the game, Knights head coach Tobin Anderson instructed his players from the sidelines to not foul anymore and just let the clock run out. It was a classy move that got a seemingly disrespectful response from Florida Atlantic guard Alijah Martin in the form of an attempt to pull off a highlight dunk.

Martin missed the shot but Florida Atlantic head coach Dusty May was seemingly quick to apologize to Anderson when the two coaches met to shake each other's hands after the final buzzer sounded. Martin also got showered with boos from fans in attendance, so that's one lesson he learned on an otherwise historic night for the Owls. Martin finished the game with 14 points, three rebounds, and two assists.

As for Anderson and the 16th-seeded Fairleigh Dickinson, they have already entered their name into March Madness history with their shocking upset win in the first round against No. 1 Purdue Boilermakers.

Florida Atlantic moves will now prepare for its upcoming matchup against the Tennessee Volunteers on Thursday at Madison Square Garden.
