After a decent run in the NBA Playoffs, the Dallas Mavericks find themselves preparing for the offseason prematurely. It'll be interesting to see what the front office can do to maintain relevancy, as they must find a way to build a title contender around Luka Doncic. To do so, a trade will likely come to fruition and apparently, Zach LaVine is a top target.

According to Marc Stein, the Mavs won't have many options through free agency as they, “will not possess the salary-cap space to sign such a player outright before next season and have endured a string of disappointments in free agency throughout Mark Cuban's tenure as the club's owner.” With that in mind, the best option for Dallas is to make a big trade in the offseason.

Apparently, the front office already has a potential plan in place. Apparently, “one option already being weighed by team brass is the prospect of joining the sign-and-trade bidding for the Chicago Bulls' Zach LaVine,” per Marc Stein. If the Mavs can pull it off then they'd have an elite backcourt that would give the entire league fits. This of course is not guaranteed, but the fact Dallas is already showing interest in LaVine means this organization should be in for a busy offseason.

Finalizing a trade like this might be difficult for the Mavs. According to Marc Stein,  “(a) path to trading for a player as coveted as LaVine is unclear, given its limited assets, but the appeal of his skill set is obvious.” Dallas will likely be extremely active throughout the offseason, as the front office hopes to build a championship contender around Luka Doncic.

Keep an eye on the Mavs, as they could become one of the league's best teams next season. That will be especially true if they can land a star-caliber player like Zach LaVine.
