For Josh Howard, the Dallas Mavericks needs just a few more tweaks from being a championship contender. To recall, Howard played six and half seasons for the Mavs from the early to late 2000s. He was a key part of the organization's success during that time, helping them qualify for the playoffs several times. Now, he's the head coach of Piedmont International University. And from his perspective as a coach, they just need one more piece to complete the puzzle.

“The ceiling is high, man, and they definitely can reach it,” Howard said of the Mavs, per Dwain Price of mavs.com. “And if we can find one cornerstone defender, I bet we’ll be back in the championship again.”

Howard's sentiments echo that of various analysts who have observed the Mavs' moves over the past year. Luka Doncic was a revelation in his rookie year. Everyone thought he was good. But not everyone believed that he has the capacity to be the team's focal point this early in his career.

The Mavs front office didn't turn a blind eye on this. They knew that Doncic was going to be special. And the right thing to do was to get a few more players who can perfectly co-exist with him. And they did just that by getting Kristaps Porzingis — a 7-foot-3 center who can shoot like Dirk Nowitzki.
