Former NBA big man and current ESPN analyst Kendrick Perkins is very impressed with Dallas Mavericks star Luka Doncic, so much so that he's calling the new Mavs franchise player “a baby LeBron James minus the athleticism.”

Even though the Mavs lost to the New York Knicks on Thursday, Doncic once again etched his name in NBA history.

Doncic recorded 33 points, 10 rebounds and 11 assists versus the Knicks. By doing so, the reigning Rookie of the Year became the youngest player in NBA history (20 years, 259 days) to record a 30-point triple-double at Madison Square Garden. Not bad.

The Mavs are so lucky to have Doncic be the franchise player in the post-Dirk Nowitzki era. This kid looks like he’s going to be dominating the NBA for the next decade as long as he stays healthy.

On the season, Luka is putting up MVP-type numbers. He’s averaging 28.7 points, 10.3 rebounds and 9.3 assists while shooting 47.9 percent from the field, 31.0 percent from beyond the arc and 83.3 percent from the free-throw line.

Through the Mavs’ first 11 games, Doncic already has seven double-doubles and five triple-doubles. He is well on his way to making his first All-Star team this season.

LeBron is arguably the most athletic player in NBA history. No one will ever challenge that title. However, Doncic appears to have the same basketball IQ that James has, and that's something Perkins has been dazzled by.
