The Dallas Mavericks set all sorts of milestones in their 139-107 rout of the New Orleans Pelicans on Wednesday night. The team shot a blistering 68.7 percent from the field en route to the easy win and an 11-9 slate.
The Mavericks set the new team record for highest field goal percentage in a game, besting the 67.7 percent set way back in 1983. They shot 79.6 percent on two-point field goals against the Pelicans, setting another team record and the third highest mark in NBA history in the shot clock era.
For Mavericks big man Kristaps Porzingis, it was fellow star Luka Doncic who set the tone for the squad. Doncic only missed one of his eight shots in the opening quarter, breaking the game wide open early on (via ESPN).
“Luka was phenomenal tonight. He started off the game hot himself, and then he was sharing the ball. Our energy was there right from the beginning because we shared it. It was a chain reaction, starting from him, and we got great looks.”
There have been whispers that Porzingis and Doncic don't really get along, which only got amplified in last season's NBA Playoffs. But early this season, the two All-Stars addressed the matter, saying they're going to have a better partnership to help the Mavericks get over the hump.
Doncic and Porzingis combined for 48 points, 14 rebounds, and 16 assists in limited minutes against the Pelicans.
The Mavericks will go for back-to-back wins against the Pelicans when they meet again on Friday.
