For those who forgot, Dallas Mavericks star Luka Doncic is only 22 years old. He may be the face of the Mavs franchise and one of the best players in the NBA today, but he is still young and doesn't have much knowledge about the league's recent history.
In fact, when asked about what he remembers from the 2011 NBA Finals when Dirk Nowitzki led the Mavs to the title, Doncic got brutally honest and admitted he knows nothing about it. After all, he was too young back then and it seems he wasn't fond of watching the NBA.
Luka Doncic is only 12 years old back in the 2011 Finals, so we can't blame him for not watching the NBA. Given his love for video games, he was probably busy choosing a game title back then or playing with his peers.
But hey, that doesn't mean he wasn't playing basketball at that time. After all, he was already hooked into basketball as early as 8, and the Mavs star even got his first pro contract at the age of 13 when he signed with Real Madrid. He made his professional debut for the Spanish club at age 16 and has been tearing up the basketball world since then.
Anyway, Luka Doncic can probably watch the tapes of the 2011 NBA Finals and find some inspiration from it as he tries to power the Mavs to the promised land. Dallas secured its playoff spot in the West after grinding out a gritty win over the Toronto Raptors. Now, the only thing that remains uncertain is their seeding as they can still fall to sixth.
What Dirk and Co. did in 2011 will forever be remembered as one of the greatest championship runs ever, but if there's anyone who can do the same for the franchise, it is undoubtedly Luka.
