Using the new Instagram feature, Dallas Mavericks wunderkind Luka Doncic was asked who he thinks is the best European NBA player. His answer was none other than his idol Drazen Petrovic — a player whom he patterned his game after.

Prior to being drafted, scouts have compared the 19-year-old to Croatian basketball legend Petrovic. The shooting guard achieved basketball fame in Europe in the 80s before bringing his talents to the NBA in the early 90s. However, a car crash cut Petrovic's life short. He died in 1993 at the age of 28.

On Petrovic's influence, Doncic said, as per Eurohoops:

“Drazen Petrovic was amazing. He was a spectacular player. Everyone who knows him says that he was a very good person. I would take almost everything from his game. Especially his three-point shooting. He couldn’t miss. I would take it, for me (laughs).”

To those who have followed Doncic's young career, it's won't come as a surprise that his favorite player is Petrovic. He even donated his Final Four jersey to his museum on Petrovic's 25th death anniversary.

“I knew it, yes. Petrovic was a really good player,” he told Javier Gancedo of Euroleague.net. It is incredible what he did and what he became. If I ever reach his level, it would be awesome. Drazen's mother asked me for the jersey; she met my Mom, asked for it to put it in Drazen's museum, and I was more than delighted to give it to her.”
