Luka Doncic and the Dallas Mavericks got the hard-fought win over the Los Angeles Clippers in Game 6. But judging by his answers during the postgame press conference, you'd think they lost in a blowout.

Doncic dropped 42 points on the Clippers, his fourth time eclipsing the 40-point plateau against LA. But the Mavs wunderkind was nothing but dismissive of his own performance, repeating the same sort of answers you'd expect from a repentant star player who choked away a crucial game. (via Dallas beat reported Brad Townsend)

“I played terrible . . . I've got to play way better . . . I took too many shots . . .”

The Mavs star did indeed take plenty of shots, but he wasn't exactly terribly inefficient with them. Doncic went 17-of-37 from the field, which is good for a decent 45.9% shooting clip. He also made six of his 12 three-point attempts with just a moderate turnover number at four miscues.

But clearly Luka Doncic isn't satisfied with just being pretty good. The Mavs' franchise cornerstone is out to be one of the greatest to ever play. Greatness thrives in these big game situations. Doncic instead deflected the credit to his teammates, indicating that getting the victory was the only thing that matters.

“We got the win and that's what matters,” said Doncic.

Mavs fans couldn't agree more. Game 6 is on Friday.
