Former Dallas Mavericks guard Nick Van Exel was surprised to see former teammate Dirk Nowitzki rocking a suit during the Dallas Cowboys opener. Via Twitter, Van Exel — who's been an assistant coach with the Memphis Grizzlies since 2016 — noted that Nowitzki was not a fan of suits when they were teammates with the Mavs. So he's pleased to see that the German is now donning a crisp coat and tie outfit.

To recall, Van Exel played for the Mavs from 2001 to 2003. He played a reserve role but given his scoring ability, he often shared the floor with Steve Nash, Nowitzki, and Michael Finley.

His best season for the team came in the 2002-03 season. The Mavs notched a 6o-win season for third place in the competitive Western Conference. They made it all the way to the Western Conference Finals but lost to the San Antonio Spurs in six games. The Spurs went on to win the title.

Despite his short (but extremely productive) stint with the Mavs, it's safe to say that Van Exel forged friendships that last a lifetime. He's pleased to see Nowitzki's post-basketball life. He knows that the German is seen a basketball legend, moreso in Dallas. He just wants his good friend to look good in front of his fans.
