Rick Carlisle's exit has been stealing headlines for the past day and now, a former Dallas Mavericks champion in Shawn Marion chimes in. The Matrix was an integral part of the 2011 Dallas squad that went all the way which etched Carlisle's legacy as one of the franchise's all-time greats.

Now that the 13-year head coach has officially decided to leave the organization after a tough first-round exit against the Los Angeles Clippers, his former player aired his thoughts.

“Coach Carlisle sure is special. We are bonded together for life on the winning side of things,” Marion said (via Mavs.com). “I’m sad to see him leave, but I wish him the best.”

It's been a rocky past couple of days for the Dallas-based franchise as tension from the front office appear to rise. Just the other day, the organization parted ways with former GM Donnie Nelson after what seems to be some internal trouble involving Haralabos Voulgaris, the team's Director for Quantitative Research and Development. Now, with Carlisle tendering his resignation, it does seem that the drama within the organization is far from over.

Right after the Mavs' seven-game series against the Clippers, everyone outside the organization thought that moving on from Kristaps Porzingis was going to be the priority come the off-season but, to the fans' surprise, it's been a ton of backroom shifts that have taken the spotlight in Dallas' off-season so far.

For what it's worth, Shawn Marion hit the nail in the head. Rick Carlisle is special and everyone who has an affinity for the Dallas Mavericks is definitely sad to see him go.
