With Kawhi Leonard likely to stay in LA, the Dallas Mavericks have shifted their focus elsewhere. The Mavs will be looking to strengthen their roster around superstar Luka Doncic and that comes down to adding a free agent who can also score and facilitate at a high level.

According to Marc Stein's Substack, that seems to be one of their top priorities:

“The Mavs' post-draft focus, sources say, will be the pursuit of Kyle Lowry (along with Miami, New Orleans and Philadelphia) and their bid to re-sign Tim Hardaway Jr. Dallas was initially expected to wait and see if Kawhi Leonard gave any indication that he was open to leaving the Clippers, but the Mavericks have moved off of those plans.”

The Mavs will have tons of competition for Lowry, who is being pursued by a boatload of different teams. He's arguably one of the best free agents on the market thanks to his versatile skillset on both ends of the floor.

As for Hardaway Jr, there's already been a desire from both sides to sign an extension, but other organizations will definitely be showing interest in the Mavs sharpshooter, who was a key piece of the squad in the playoffs.

Kristaps Porzingis meanwhile could still be on his way out after struggling in 2020/21. It's no secret the Mavs need more proven scorers around Doncic and if they can actually sign Lowry and retain Hardaway Jr, it would be a huge step in the right direction.
