The Dallas Mavericks were all-in in signing superstar Luka Doncic to a supermax contract to make sure he stays in Dallas for the foreseeable future. So much so that they had to fly in some heavy hitters all the way to Ljubljana, Slovenia to personally deliver a five-year extension worth $205 million.

According to Dallas' President of basketball operations Nico Harrison, who was part of the group that flew to Central Europe, the trip was necessary for showing their franchise player some much-needed love.

“Honestly, just the idea of the trip, all of us going to show Luka that amount of respect to go to his birthplace,” Harrison said (via The Dallas Morning News). “I think when you put that much time and energy and thoughtfulness into doing something like that, it becomes bigger than just a big contract.”

And, Dallas went real big on that trip. Aside from the Mavs' new GM, the traveling contingent included Mavs owner Mark Cuban, special adviser Dirk Nowitzki, head coach Jason Kidd, and even newly-hired exec Michael Finley. How's that for a big five?

Doncic was coming off from an inspiring Tokyo 2020 trip where he led his Slovenian national team to an impressive fourth-place finish in their first-ever trip to the Olympics. And, instead of waiting for the 22-year-old superstar to head back to Dallas, the Mavs front office made sure they went the distance (literally) to express how much they value their young franchise player.

The Mavs didn't make a lot of moves this offseason, at least as of now. But, this move to show a ton of affection to Luka, was definitely one of their most important ones this summer.
