New York Mets shortstop Francisco Lindor belted a three-run shot in his first at-bat during Friday's 10-4 win over the Miami Marlins.

What makes it even more memorable for the Mets superstar was who was in attendance. His mom sat in his family suite, looking on as her son rounded the bases. He pointed up at her as he crossed the plate.

It was the first home game Lindor's mom had attended since his trade from the Cleveland Guardians. The $341 million shortstop opened up to reporters following the game regarding what this all means to him.

“It's been a tough, long journey for her,” he said. “She's a true warrior, and to see her here, I'm just happy.”

Lindor told reporters that his mom suffered a head injury in 2020. He said that this injury has caused her to miss Mets' home games due to concerns over her flying.

“Life is extremely precious, and sometimes we take that for granted,” he continued. “Just to see her here, in New York, it's a dream. It's a victory for my whole entire family, and God is good. That's all I can say.”

According to the NY Daily News, the entire thing was a surprise to Lindor. His wife, Katia, arranged for his mother to travel from her home in Florida. Lindor had no clue his mother would be in attendance until mere hours before first pitch.

The presence of such an important figure in his life gave the 28-year-old extra motivation for the game. And it's a moment he will never forget.

“My mom got to watch me play as a New York Met in New York,” said Lindor. “That, to me, is special.”
