The New York Mets will be without manager Buck Showalter for one game after the skipper was handed a one-game suspension following MLB's ruling that Yoan Lopez intentionally threw at Kyle Schwarber during Monday's matchup against the Philadelphia Phillies. Anthony DiComo reports that Showalter has been disciplined with the one-game ban, while Lopez will be suspended for three games after he tried to hit Schwarber with a pitch during the NL East rivalry matchup on Sunday.

Showalter is just 23 games into his tenure as manager of the Mets, but he's already serving a brief suspension as a result of the antics that took place on Sunday. Schwarber was a problem for the Mets all night, launching two home runs against Max Scherzer in the game. That wasn't the cause of Lopez's attempted beanball, however. Mets star Francisco Lindor had been hit by a pitch in the 8th inning, a trend that has become all too familiar for Amazins fans this season. In six games against the Phillies, Mets batters have been hit by pitches six times.

After reviewing the situation, MLB has determined that Lopez's pair of stray fastballs were intentional, and that the 29-year-old had purposely thrown at Schwarber with the two pitches.

The Mets have been hit by more pitches than any other team in MLB this season, prompting a meeting with league representatives to discuss the situation. Despite that, Lindor was still hit by a fastball in the 8th inning, which prompted the retaliation from Lopez, for which both he and Showalter have been disciplined.
