Newly re-signed Portland Trail Blazers center Meyers Leonard recently appeared on the Bald Faced Truth radio show with John Canzano. He discussed his thoughts on the upcoming 2016-2017 season, his teammate C.J. McCollum‘s new max contract, and why $41 million is more than enough for himself.

He was recently signed to a team friendly four-year, $41 million deal, especially given this summer's extreme spending by NBA teams. Not only did the Blazers secure his services for the next four years, they have him at the peak of his career, and many believe his best is still yet to show.

In the interview, Leonard had this to say about staying in Oregon with his new contract:

“Market value is what it is it. All I care about is that I know I'm playing to my fullest potential for my coaches to my teammates, that people believe in that… back to the four years and $41 million, I'd look at them like they're crazy if they say it wasn't enough. I mean, dear God, look at where I come from.”

Meyers is clearly thankful for what he was offered. His outlook will surely help his performance in the coming season.

Leonard also said that he can't wait to show what he can do this coming year, talking about his progression as a player:

“I'm eager. I'm hungry. I want it. I know what this team can do and I know what I can do and I want it”

“That's the thing I'm proud of. I remained ready. I continued to work my tail off behind the scenes, watching film, staying in shape, getting extra shots up, doing things like that. I'm happy that I've done that. But now it's time to make another step.”

Now, it's a matter of time to see how much better he can get on the court. Given his positive demeanor, the sky's the limit for the 24-year old. Surely, Portland fans will be counting on him to lighten the load from their dynamic backcourt of Damian Lillard and McCollum.
