The Mississippi State Bulldogs have decided to move on from Zach Arnett, with the program parting ways with the head coach. The decision to fire Arnett came just after the 51-10 loss Mississippi State football suffered at the hands of the Texas A&M Aggies over the weekend in College Station.

With Arnett no longer the head coach of the Bulldogs, Mississippi State football named Greg Knox as the team's interim head coach, per Pete Thamel of ESPN.

After the loss to the Aggies, Arnett expressed his understanding of the extreme disappointment of the Bulldogs fanbase amid a trying 2023 campaign.

They should be frustrated,” Arnett said, per the Associated Press (h/t ESPN). “Our job is to put a product on the field that the fans are excited about and proud of. Right now, we need to do everything better. We need to play better. We need to coach better. Ain’t no denying that.”

The loss to Texas A&M was the third in a row and sixth overall of Mississippi State in the 2023 college football season, though, it must also be noted that the Bulldogs are missing the services of No. 1 quarterback Will Rogers due to injury.

Zach Arnett done as head coach of Mississippi State football

Arnett took over the head coaching position for Mississippi State on an interim basis following the death of Mike Leach last December before being officially named the team's permanent head coach.

The Bulldogs have two more games left on their regular-season schedule, with a date with the Southern Miss Golden Eagles on Nov. 18 and with the Ole Miss Rebels on Nov. 23.
