Although the Los Angeles Lakers fired their head coach on Sunday, it appears they won't be hiring anyone in the near future.
While speaking about the decision to fire Byron Scott, general manager Mitch Kupchak stated that the Lakers won't be hiring a new head coach in the next two weeks.
On @TWCSportsNet, Mitch said it's "very unlikely" Lakers would both hire coach in next two weeks or after free agency.

Kupchak did state he did not want this head coaching search to “drag out,” and he hopes that the Lakers find a new head coach before the draft.
On TWC, Mitch Kupchak says he does not want coaching search to "drag out." Would like to have staff in place before draft.

The list of coaching candidates on Los Angeles' wish list includes Luke Walton, Jeff Van Gundy and Kevin Ollie. If Walton is indeed the top candidate, it would make sense for the Lakers to wait before the draft, considering the Golden State Warriors will likely have a deep postseason run that could extend into June.
While teams such as the Minnesota Timberwolves and Washington Wizards have hired big names such as Tom Thibodeau and Scott Brooks over the past week, the Lakers will not be following suit, unless Van Gundy is the eventual hire.
