FOX Sports OHIO broadcaster Thom Brennaman is in deep trouble on Wednesday evening after a hot mic picked up the longtime Cincinnati Reds announcer using a homophobic slur. Brennanman apparently thought he was off the air.

However, the story gets even more twisted as Brennaman continued to broadcast for the Reds in the second game of a doubleheader, later resulting in an on-air apology during the top of the fifth inning.

In the middle of Brennaman's apology, Nicholas Castellanos hit an 0-1 pitch over the left-field fence, resulting in a home run and extending the Reds' lead over the Kansas City Royals. During the at-bat apology, Brennaman stopped to announce the extra base hit and continued expressing his regrettable words.

Shorty after his apology and home run call, Brennaman went off the air and turned it over to FOX Sports Ohio to continue broadcasting the intra-league game as the MLB forges on during the coronavirus-stricken, wacky 2020 season. It made for bizarre television with Brennaman sincerely sounding apologetic, however, he still made sure to call Castellanos' home run and go right back into his on-air apology.

The Reds had hired Brennaman in 2010 to join FOX Sports Ohio's broadcast of the NL Central team's games. (UPDATE: FOX Sports cut ties with Brennaman broadcasting NFL games, per ESPN.)

A hot mic earlier today caught Thom Brennaman using the homophobic “f–” word and confusingly, after users on social media picked up on the derogatory term, the longtime Reds announcer continued working the first game of the doubleheader. More puzzlingly, Brennaman continued into the second game before his fifth inning spiel apologizing (and calling the home run).
