The Arizona Diamondbacks will attempt to win the series as they finish a three-game set against the Colorado Rockies at Coors Field. It’s time to continue our MLB odds coverage with a Diamondbacks-Rockies prediction and pick.

The Rockies defeated the Diamondbacks 11-7 on Saturday. Colorado started strong when C.J. Cron cracked an RBI single to get the Rockies on the board. Then, Brendan Rodgers blasted a three-run home run, giving the Rockies a 4-0 lead early. Christian Walker responded in the next inning with a solo blast, his 20th in 2022. The Rockies put some space in the scoreboard in the fourth when Connor Joe clipped a three-RBI triple, making it 7-2. The Diamondbacks would get back-to-back home runs from Ketel Marte and Christian Walker to cut the deficit to 7-5. However, the Rockies eventually pulled away.

The Diamondbacks are 35-43, and in fourth place in the NL West. Meanwhile, the Rockies are one game behind the D Backs at 34-44. The Diamondbacks will go with Zac Gallen today. Gallen is 4-2 with a 3.39 ERA. However, he has slumped in June, going 0-2 with a 5.26 ERA. Gallen did well in his last start, tossing seven scoreless innings. Additionally, he is 3-1 with a 2.11 ERA in eight career starts against the Rockies.

The Rockies will go with Chad Kuhl on the hill. Kuhl is 5-5 with a 3.49 ERA. Also, he is coming off the best start of his season, as he threw a complete-game shutout against the Los Angeles Dodgers, allowing just three hits. Kuhl has not had success against the Diamondbacks, going 0-1 in four games (three starts) with a 7.07 ERA. He looks to fix that mark today.

Why The Diamondbacks Could Cover The Spread

The Diamondbacks need production from their hitters, but Walker and Marte are the heart and soul of the lineup. Walker has blasted 21 home runs this season, scoring 42 RBIs and 40 runs. He is batting .278 with two home runs, four RBIs, and four runs scored through five career games against the Rockies. Likewise, Walker is batting .303 with 14 home runs, 36 RBIs, and 33 runs scored through 51 career games against the Rockies. he is also hitting .287 with seven home runs, 14 RBIs, and 17 runs scored at Coors Field.

Marte is batting .264 with five home runs, 24 RBIs, and 31 runs scored in 2022. However, he has torched the Rockies, batting .389 with one home run, two RBIs, and two runs scored through five games against the Rockies in 2022. Marte has a batting average of .316 with nine home runs, 46 RBIs, and 43 runs scored through 75 career games against the Rockies. Likewise, he has batting .316 with six home runs, 29 RBIs, and 27 runs scored through 36 games at Coors Field.

The Diamondbacks will cover the spread if Gallen gives them six strong innings with limited mistakes. Additionally, Walker and Marte must produce and stir things up for the rest of the lineup.

Why The Rockies Could Cover The Spread

The Rockies won last night thanks to big nights from Cron and Rodgers. Cron is batting .295 with 17 home runs, 58 RBIs, and 46 runs scored in 2022. Also, he is batting .316 with three RBIs and one run scored through five games against the Rockies in 2022. Surprisingly, Cron has yet to hit a home run against the Rockies this season or throughout his career. He is batting .304 with 13 RBI and nine runs scored through 23 games. Subsequently, Cron is batting .263 with eight RBIs and five runs through 10 home games against the Diamondbacks.

Rodgers is batting .264 with eight home runs, 40 RBIs, and 38 runs scored through 67 games. However, he is batting .22 with one home run, three RBIs, and two runs scored through five games against the Diamondbacks. Rodgers is hitting .275 with one home run, five RBIs, and nine runs scored through 22 career games against Arizona. Subsequently, the lone home run came yesterday.

The Rockies cover the spread if Kuhl replicates his effort from his brilliant performance against the Dodgers. Likewise, they need the lineup to produce. Cron and Rodgers must set the tone early and build the Rockies a significant lead early in the game.

Final Diamondbacks-Rockies Prediction & Pick

Neither team is good. The Diamondbacks and Rockies already figure to play the stretch out without real hope for the playoffs. However, both organizations have building blocks that could pay off within a few years. Both teams have solid pitchers on the mound today, and a dip in run scoring is almost inevitable after last night’s game. Expect both offenses to drag their feet through this one, producing a significantly lower score than last night.
