The Seattle Mariners will attempt to sweep the three-game series as they meet the Los Angeles Angels in the finale at Angels Stadium. It's time to continue our MLB odds coverage with a Mariners-Angels prediction and pick.

The Mariners defeated the Angels 5-3 on Saturday, giving themselves two straight victories at the Big A. Seattle started things fast when Julio Rodriguez crushed a solo home run to left. It was his 11th in 2022, giving the Mariners an early 1-0 lead. Later, Shohei Ohtani responded in the third inning when he hammered a 3-1 fastball into the seats in right-center field. The laser shot was the 16th in 2022 and registered at 462 feet. The Angels added on in the fourth when Kurt Suzuki slugged a shot to right-center field for a home run. It was his 2nd in 2022, giving the Angels the 2-1 lead.

However, the bullpen could not hold onto the lead in the sixth inning. The Angels allowed Seattle to get runners on and then allowed the tying run to come across off a Tyler Wade error. Kevin Padlo followed with an RBI double, giving the Mariners a 4-2 lead. The Mariners moved into third place in the AL West with the win, while dropping the Angels to fourth.

Why The Mariners Could Cover The Spread

The Mariners have contained the Angels at every turn through these two games at the Big A. Unlike last weekend, the Mariners are not letting Trout hurt them. They also are not allowing the Angels too many opportunities to do damage with runners on the base paths. Both home runs last night were solo shots. Seattle will attempt to replicate the success in the finale.

Marco Gonzales takes the hill for Seattle. Gonzales is 4-7 with a 3.33 ERA in 2022. He went seven innings in his last outing, allowing two earned runs on seven hits. Gonzales has hit six innings in four of five starts. Additionally, he has also hit seven innings in three of five starts. Gonzales is 9-2 with a 3.44 ERA and 91 strikeouts in 18 career appearances against the Angels.

Rodriguez slugged well last night and hopes to replicate the success today. He is batting .267 with two home runs, four RBIs and five total runs through seven games against the Angels in 2022. Ty France has done okay, batting .267 with three RBIs and four runs through seven games against the Angels in 2022. Alternatively, he is batting .235 with two home runs, 12 RBIs, and 11 runs scored through 23 games against the Angels throughout his career.

The Mariners will cover the spread if Gonzales can give them six strong innings. Additionally, the Mariners need production from Rodriguez and France to sweep the series.

Why The Angels Could Cover The Spread

The Angels are 4-3 against the Mariners in 2022, with all four wins coming last weekend in Seattle. The Angels are 18-22 at home and 10-17 since their 8-5 mark in April. However, they have a pitcher that has fared well against Seattle.

Jose Suarez is on the mound today. Suarez is 0-2 with a 5.00 ERA in 2022. He has bounced between the majors and Triple-A on multiple occasions this year. Suarez went 4 1/3 innings in his last start, not allowing a run on four scattered hits. That performance came against the Mariners, a team he is familiar with. Suarez is 3-1 with a 3.68 ERA in eight appearances against the Mariners. He must dial it up today to give the Angels a fighting chance.

The three key stars of the lineup are Ohtani, Mike Trout, and Jared Walsh. Trout loves facing the Mariners, as he is batting .333 with six home runs, 11 RBIs, and seven runs scored in seven games against Seattle. He is batting .326 with 53 home runs, 132 RBIs, and 139 runs scored through 174 career games against the Mariners. However, Ohtani does enjoy the same success. He is batting .167 with one home run, two RBIs and one run scored through six games in 2022 against the Mariners. Likewise, he is batting .212 with 12 home runs, 34 RBIs, and 32 runs scored in 58 games against the Mariners. Ohtani will either take a pitch deep, or he will not do anything at all. Walsh is similar, batting .238 with one home run and two RBIs through six games against Seattle. Also, he is batting .282 with six home runs, 21 RBIs, and 11 runs through 32 games against Seattle.

The Angels will cover the spread if Suarez can pitch well. The Angels are 23rd in the majors in first-inning ERA, so getting out of the first inning unharmed is a must. Trout, Ohtani, and Walsh must produce today to give the Halos a chance to avoid the sweep.

Final Mariners-Angels Prediction & Pick

The Angels won the last game Suarez pitched against the Mariners. However, neither Suarez nor the Angels lineup made it easy. Expect the Angels to struggle but somehow come away with the win.
