The Texas Rangers and Seattle Mariners get together for a fun AL West battle. It's time to continue our MLB odds series with a Mariners-Rangers prediction and pick.

Are the Mariners having fun right now? You bet there are. They have won their last 10 games in a row and are on an absolute tear. With the return of Ty France, the offense has exploded and the pitching staff is getting the job done on a nightly basis. Seattle is now in the playoff race as they have improved their record to (47-42). They are still 11 games behind the Houston Astros for the division.

The Texas Rangers are (41-45) and are holding their own in the division. They are third and are finding ways to win as they are almost back to .500 ball. Texas is coming off of a series win against the Oakland Athletics but unfortunately, they won't be playing them every game. They now face a team that is on the rise and it will be a tough weekend for them if they don't show up.

Why The Mariners Could Cover The Spread

Marco Gonzales is on the bump for the Mariners tonight. He's had a steady season so far and one you can't complain about. He is (5-9) with a 3.24 ERA in 94.1 innings. He's pitched well as of late also not allowing more than two runs in his last five starts. In fact, he's allowed exactly two runs in his last four outings. He earned the win over the Toronto Blue Jays even though he didn't strike out a single batter. His K-numbers aren't eye-opening, but he does a good job of now allowing the long ball.

Offensively, Julio Rodriguez has been their best hitter since Ty France returned. He's batting .274 with 15 home runs and 44 RBIs. He will now participate in the Home Run Derby which will be exciting to see. France is batting .302 with 10 home runs and 45 RBIs. The lineup is stacked and if they keep getting on base then there won't be anything the Rangers will be able to do.

Why The Rangers Could Cover The Spread

Starting for the Rangers is Martin Perez. Perez continues to be one of the best pitchers in all of baseball this season. He is (7-2) with a 2.72 ERA in 106 innings. His ERA is 13th in baseball and his 1.18 WHIP is 34th in the majors. The Rangers have won his last five starts after pitching at least six innings in all of them. However, he allowed six runs against the Minnesota Twins in his last start which is the most he has allowed all year long. Texas hopes that he is able to turn it around quickly as he faces a very hot offense.

The Rangers' top two hitters are not doing a great job of getting on base consistently. Corey Seager does have a .321 OBP, but Marcus Semien sits at .293. Their averages are both below .250 and that is a lot of money spent on poor production. The rangers are finding ways to remain a competitive team, but if they could just get those two to improve offensively, then they could be a dangerous squad. Seager does have 21 bombs and 48 RBIs on the year, which is respectable. Adolis Garcia is hitting the ball well this year with 15 home runs and 51 RBIs which leads the team. If that core three can get to Gonzales tonight, then they will have a shot at ending the Mariners' streak.

Final Mariners-Rangers Prediction & Pick

The Mariners streak comes to an end! I expect Perez to bounce back and pitch lights out at home against the divisional rivals.

Final Mariners-Rangers Prediction & Pick: Rangers -1.5 (+164)
