The New York Yankees will host the Cincinnati Reds tonight for the second game of this three-game series after a major upset last night for the Reds to come back and win in the ninth inning. They'll look to try and do it again tonight as the Reds really need to start winning games if they want to see the postseason at all. With that, it’s time to continue our MLB odds series with a Reds-Yankees prediction and pick.

Why The Reds Can Cover The Spread/Win

The Reds have now found themselves on a five-game winning streak and are still within quite some distance in the NL Central. They have an overall record of 33-54 and are still 15.5 games back from the Brewers. The bats for the reds have started to come alive as the season goes on, but the pitching staff continues to struggle, giving up the second most home runs in baseball and the league's worst ERA. Tonight, the Reds will start veteran left-hander Mike Minor on the mound, who is 1-6 so far on the season with an overall 6.63 ERA. Taking that into a game against an overpowered Yankees team, the results could vary.

Why The Yankees Can Cover The Spread/Win

The Yankees are still the best team in baseball despite their currently three-game losing streak. Overall on the year, the Yankees have a record of 61-26 while still 14.0 games ahead of the Rays in the AL East. The Yankees don't really need much talked about when we already know it. Aaron Judge will likely be the MVP this season if he sticks with his numbers, and they have one of the best pitching staffs in the league (second in saves, third in ERA, and sixth in strikeouts). Even more good news for the Yankees, closing pitcher Aroldis Chapman has returned from injury, giving them even more options in the bullpen. Starting on the bump tonight will be Luis Severino, who is showing a 5-3 record with a 3.11 ERA. As long as they can keep the hot bats on the Reds' shoulders, they'll get back in the win column.

Final Reds-Yankees Prediction & Pick

Last night's game was indeed a miracle for Reds Moneyline betters after they put up four runs in the top of the ninth to win. Tonight is looking a lot like the same, odds-wise. However, to me, the main story is the pitching of the Reds. Mike Minor is simply just not a good pitcher right now and giving up way too many runs, especially now that he has to face a hot Yankees team. With that said, I'm taking the Yankees run line again tonight. It's still not the best odds, but it's the most likely outcome unless they blow it in the final inning again.

Final Reds-Yankees Prediction and Pick: Yankees -1.5 (-162)
