An 87-loss and 75-win record was not going to cut it for the New York Mets. The team is now looking for answers after their horrid fourth-place finish in the NL East. David Stearns is now starting to shape up his squad in the MLB offseason. First, it was Yohan Ramirez that they got to fill their position. Now, it seems like a former New Yankees and Los Angeles Angels infielder that is in their sights. He goes by the name of Gio Urshela.

The Mets are now on the market for new infielders this MLB offseason. Now, David Stearns is looking to acquire Gio Urshela, per Mark W. Sanchez of the New York Post. This move might be prompted by Ronny Mauricio's injury. Not only will they get some level of the same production but they also get another veteran in him.

If the Mets do get the former Yankees and Angels third baseman, he will have some competition. Brett Baty, Mark Vientos, and the injured Mauricio would all be competing for the same position. But, his stats in the previous season prove that he can handle the heat. He hit two homers along with a .299 in limited games played.

He will also not be the first former Yankees player to join the squad. Luis Severino was one of the first signings that the Mets had for this offseason. Moreover, these are signs of creating a new culture in the system. Carlos Mendoza has signified his intentions of building the place from the ground up.
