The Cincinnati Reds are perhaps the surprise team in Major League Baseball this season. They may soon be surprising plenty of baseball fans again by trading one of their best players and leaders.

The Reds have told teams they are willing to trade Jonathan India before next week's deadline, according to Mark Feinsand. Cincinnati is seeking young, controllable starting pitchers in a package for India.

India made his MLB debut with the Reds in 2021 and immediately was one of Cincinnati's best players. He won the National League Rookie of the Year Award and was quickly a fan favorite. His production dropped in 2022 as he was limited to 103 games.

This season India's numbers have improved slightly but not to what they were in 2021. Still, India is an impact player whose presence is felt both on and off the field for the Reds, which could make trading him away a little daunting for Cincinnati.

Though India was the first one of the bunch to make it to the big leagues, the Reds' influx of young infielders could end up being the reason he is traded. The emergence of Elly De La Cruz and Matt McLain, along with Spencer Steer, gives the Reds tough decisions to make. Cincinnati's top four prospects are all infielders as well, meaning the Reds have a good problem regarding young depth.

Trading away Jonathan India may end up being the right move in the end for the Reds, but Cincinnati fans will likely need some time to digest the move. The continued electrifying play of the Reds youngsters and a trip to the postseason will ease the pain of losing India.
