Cincinnati Reds super rookie Elly De La Cruz is a gift that keeps on giving for his team. On Sunday, De La Cruz was electric again, as he hit a leadoff home run for the first time in his career during the Reds' 7-3 home win against the Arizona Diamondbacks. And with that home run, De La Cruz has duplicated a feat only two major leaguers had accomplished before him since 1913, a small group that includes the legendary Barry Bonds, per ESPN Stats & Info.

See, only Bonds and Gary Redus, who also debuted in the big leagues with the Reds, were the only ones to hit at least five home runs and steal 15 bases in 40 games or fewer back in the early 80s.

“Elly De La Cruz recorded his 5th HR on Sunday. He tied Barry Bonds in 1986 for the 2nd-fewest games needed to reach 5 HR and 15 stolen bases since 1900, reaching the mark in his 40th career game. Gary Redus did it in 27 games in 1982-83.”

There is no denying the incredible talent of Elly De La Cruz, who has truly made his impact felt by the Reds, who improved to 55-46 following the win over the Diamondbacks. Cincy is also now just half a game behind the Milwaukee Brewers for the top spot in the National League Central.

De La Cruz and the Reds will now look to keep their momentum going and attempt to extend their win streak to six games when they take on the Brewers for a start of a pivotal three-leg series on the road this Monday.

On the season, De La Cruz is batting .273/.322/.447 with 17 RBIs, nine doubles, and two triples as well.
