The Chicago White Sox are preparing to be big-time sellers at the 2024 MLB trade deadline. Owners of MLB's worst record, they do still have some players that could drum up a bidding war.

The White Sox have a bunch of players that opposing teams will be interested in. Luis Robert Jr. and Garrett Crochet stand out as the two main players that opposing teams will inquire about, though there should be other players made available, too. Chicago's center fielder and starting pitcher could be among the best players available for trade, so the front office is going to make sure it gets the most value possible.

Hinting at who the White Sox could trade with is the assignments of their scouts, according to Ken Rosenthal, Patrick Mooney and Katie Woo of The Athletic.

The Athletic reporters write the following: “The White Sox in recent weeks have assigned top scouts to focus on the Padres’, Dodgers’ and Mariners’ farm systems, according to sources briefed on the scouts’ movements. All three of those clubs have shown interest in multiple White Sox players, but are far from the only ones engaged with Chicago on potential trades. Still, the White Sox’s scouting activity might be a tipoff to how they will approach the deadline. If they lean on field scouts, it means they likely want prospects with big tools. The Padres, Dodgers and Mariners all have those types of players in considerable supply.”

These moves by the White Sox are due diligence and surely assignments that other teams are deploying, too. Still, it's worth noticing that they are taking their chance to be sellers at the deadline seriously. Scouting will be important for Chicago as they aim to stock their minor league teams with talent.

The San Diego Padres, Los Angeles Dodgers and Seattle Mariners are all teams looking to win now with their respective collection of stars. They all need help at various positions and, what’s most important for the White Sox, they all have a few top-100 prospects. The ChiSox won’t be able to get Ethan Salas from San Diego but they could try to obtain other highly regarded players. Robert and Crochet being 26 and 25 years old respectively makes it more likely that Chicago can pull off a trade for a top-notch prospect.

The White Sox have their own top prospect in Colson Montgomery, a shortstop who ranks 10th on MLB.com's top 100 list and is the future of the team. They could look to find his middle infield partner for the future in Seattle's Cole Young. They might be intrigued by the Padres' 17-year-old prospect Leodalis De Vries or LA's 19-year-old prospect Josue De Paula.

Teams like the Philadelphia Phillies, Cleveland Guardians and Baltimore Orioles should be intrigued by Robert, a righty-hitting outfielder who has put together impressive seasons in the past. Any team looking for a pitching upgrade — the Arizona Diamondbacks and Houston Astros stand out as suitors — would want Crochet. The Sox have the chance to pull off a lot of big moves before the July 30 deadline.
