The Arizona Diamondbacks have had a good 2023 season and are currently in second place in the NL West with a 73-68 record. The Diamondbacks aren't going to be able to catch the first place Los Angeles Dodgers as they are 13 games back, but they are right in the thick of the National League wild card race. Arizona currently holds the final spot and has a half game lead on the Miami Marlins. The last few weeks of the season are going to be exciting, and the Diamondbacks will need to play their best baseball at the right time to make it to the postseason. One player that might help with that is Jordan Lawlar, who made his MLB debut on Thursday against the Chicago Cubs.
Jordan Lawlar was just called up from Triple-A Reno and looked great in his first game in the MLB. Lawlar recorded his first hit in the majors and had some stellar defensive plays at shortstop. The young prospect might be the spark that this team needs to get them into the playoffs if he can continue to do his job like he did on Thursday.
“It was amazing,” Lawlar said according to an article from MLB.com. “Standing at shortstop, looking at all the fans in the stands. It was amazing. I’ll never forget it.”
The Diamondbacks have three more games against the Cubs in Chicago this weekend, and those games are going to have big implications on the playoff race. Chicago is currently three games up on Arizona, so if the Diamondbacks can pull off a miraculous sweep on the road, the two teams will be tied in the standings. This should be a fun series and it'll be interesting to see how Lawlar settles into the big leagues this weekend.
