Frankie Montas has been on the trade block for months now. The 29-year-old, right-handed pitcher has remained on the bottom-feeding Oakland Athletics but will be discussed constantly as the 2022 MLB trade deadline approaches.

Just over a week ago, Frankie Montas was removed after 13 innings due to shoulder tightness. Trying to trade him while injured would have been very tough. According to Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic, Montas will be returning to the Athletics rotation this weekend against the Houston Astros.

Frankie Montas, who placed sixth in Al CY Young Award voting last season, has a 3.26 ERA and 1.086 WHIP in 96.2 innings this season. His ability to get batters to chase — he's in the 89th percentile in Baseball Savant — is impressive and could be put to good use alongside lineups that can give him proper run support.

Several playoff contenders would be a good fit for Montas. A pitcher that can maintain high velocity deep into starts and has a five-pitch arsenal will be an attractive addition for a playoff push. Trading him could get the Athletics some intriguing prospects.

Oakland owns the worst record in the American League at 30-59. Trading Montas makes total sense for a team desperately in need of a rebuild. He is in his prime and there are tons of teams in need of a good starting pitcher. With the market seemingly in their favor, they should be able to land a solid package in return.

As Frankie Montas becomes one of the biggest names among available pitchers at the MLB trade deadline, the Athletics will be happy that he is good to go again.
