It was revealed on Wednesday that former Oakland Athletics outfielder Jeremy Giambi, the brother of Jason Giambi, was found dead in his parents' California home. On Friday, the cause of death was sadly determined by Los Angeles Coroners. Giambi shot himself. He was just 47-years-old.

Jeremy Giambi enjoyed a six-year career in the MLB, playing for the A's, Reds, Royals, Phillies, and Red Sox. He played two seasons with his brother Jason in the Bay Area before he moved onto the New York Yankees in a blockbuster deal.

Giambi's most famous moment from his stint in the big leagues was being on the receiving end of Derek Jeter's ridiculous flip play in the 2001 American League Division Series at the Coliseum where he failed to slide and was tagged out.

Jeremy Giambi was also characterized in the movie “Moneyball”, where Brad Pitt played A's GM Billy Beane. Throughout his time in the Majors, Giambi hit .263 with 52 home runs. It's a sad turn of events, especially because he was just 47. The Athletics organization released this statement after the news:

“We are heartbroken to learn of the passing of a member of our Green and Gold family, Jeremy Giambi,” the A’s wrote on Twitter. “We offer our condolences to Jeanne, Jason, and his family and friends.”

RIP.
