The Atlanta Braves are looking to run it back as World Series champs in 2022, but it appears they'll be starting the year without their best player. Ronald Acuna Jr., who suffered a torn ACL last season, is still working his way back from the knee injury. The Braves placed the superstar outfielder on the 10-day IL on Monday as he recovers from the reconstruction surgery he underwent on his injured knee.

This isn't a surprise move from the Braves, as it was widely expected that Acuna would be forced to miss the start of the year as he finishes up his recovery. Placing Acuna on the Injured List ahead of Opening Day will allow the Braves to bring aboard another player to take his place until he returns.

Last season, Acuna featured in 82 games before having his season cut short due to the injury. He slashed .283/.394/.596 with 24 home runs, 52 RBI, and 17 stolen bases. He made his second All-Star game prior to the ACL tear, and will be hoping to pick up where he left off when he eventually makes his return to the team.

The Braves are rightfully exercising caution when it comes to their franchise cornerstone, opting against rushing him back for Opening Day in order to reduce the chance of re-injury. Fans in Atlanta will be eager to see the 24-year-old suit back up for the team for the first time since July 10, 2021, but for now, they'll have to be patient.

It shouldn't be long before Acuna is cleared to make his 2022 debut, but Opening Day is officially off the table for the Braves' star.
