The Milwaukee Brewers and Atlanta Braves came together for the first notable MLB in-season trade of 2021 on Tuesday.

Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic first reported the Brewers were sending infielder Orlando Arcia to the Braves. Jon Heyman of MLB Network later reported Milwaukee is acquiring two arms from Atlanta.

This is as much a depth move for the Braves as anything else.

Arcia is primarily a shortstop but is capable of playing all over the infield. As Rosenthal noted, the Braves really only have four bench players on their MLB roster. The move should give manager Brian Snitker options, pending Arcia passes intake testing.

Milwaukee, meanwhile, will receive a pair of young arms as it looks to add some talent to the pipeline.

Arcia never quite became the plus-plus defender and contact hitter the Brewers envisioned when he took over as the full-time shortstop, though he did hit .260 with a .734 OPS in 2020. He will prepare for a new chapter with a Braves team coming off three consecutive National League East titles.

Atlanta's season hardly got off to the best of starts. The Braves were swept by the Philadelphia Phillies in their opening series. An offense that ranked second in the NL in runs scored and first in OPS in 2020 produced all of three runs in the first three games.

The Braves then had their season temporarily put on hold when Monday's game with the Washington Nationals postponed due to COVID-19 issues. Atlanta will play a doubleheader against the Nats on Wednesday.
