The Baltimore Orioles will almost certainly be sellers at the MLB trade deadline at the end of the month, and one name who seems to be generating a whole lot of interest is relief pitcher Mychal Givens.
According to Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic, the Cleveland Indians, Atlanta Braves and Los Angeles Dodgers have all expressed interest in trading for Givens.
The problem for the Orioles is that Givens is currently mired in the worst season of his career, as he has pitched to the tune of a 4.23 ERA over 33 relief appearances, allowing 29 hits while striking out 52 batters over 38.1 innings of work.
While his strikeout numbers are solid, his control has been a bit of an issues, as Given has walked 17 hitters, and his 4.63 FIP actually indicates that he has even gotten a bit lucky with his ERA.
The 29-year-old, who was originally selected by Baltimore in the second round of the 2009 MLB Draft, broke into the big leagues back in 2015 and made 22 appearances, logging a 1.80 ERA while surrendering 20 hits and fanning 38 hitters across 30 frames of action.
Then, the following year, Givens came out of the bullpen 66 times and went 8-2 with a 3.13 ERA, permitting 59 hits while racking up 96 punchouts through 74.2 innings.
He had a similar season in 2017, going 8-1 with a 2.75 ERA, giving up 57 hits and recording 88 strikeouts over 77.2 frames. Givens then went 0-7 with a 3.99 ERA in 2018, allowing 61 hits and totaling 79 strikeouts across 76.2 innings of action.
For what it's worth, the Indians also went after Givens last summer, but the Orioles rebuffed their offers.
