The Baltimore Orioles have been one of the worst teams in the MLB over the past few seasons. They haven't posted a winning campaign since 2016 when they went 89-73. Since then, Baltimore has lost over 100 games three times, including last year in 2021, when their 52-110 record was tied for the worst in baseball.

In an unbelievably competitive AL East division, the O's weren't given much of a shot this season, and they have hovered around the bottom of the division for most of the season. But that hasn't stopped them from making things interesting.

The Orioles are in the midst of a nine game win streak that has seen them push their record all the way back up to the .500 mark at 44-44. While they are still in last place in the East, they are just two games behind the fourth-place Toronto Blue Jays, meaning if they keep this up, they could have a real shot at making a playoff push.

Not only are the Orioles exceeding expectations in their division, but their unlikely win streak has also put them in rare company. The 2022 O's are just the fourth team since 1900 to reel off a nine-game win streak after finishing with the worst record in the league the previous season. They joined their previous franchise, the St. Louis Browns, as one of the four teams on that list.

This provides some insight into how rare it is to see a team that played as poorly as the Orioles had for the past few seasons pull off a winning streak like this. And while it's a neat little tidbit, it's also worth noting that their unexpected emergence has clouded up an already packed AL East. If Baltimore continues to win, there could be some real chaos in the AL East down the line.
