Carlos Correa has been linked to MLB juggernauts such as the New York Yankees, Los Angeles Dodgers, and Houston Astros. And that makes sense, since they are all competitive teams that feature the money to pay him. But according to Ben Verlander of Fox Sports, the Baltimore Orioles have emerged as a potential suitor for the 26-year-old superstar shortstop. Verlander reports that Baltimore offered Correa a 10-year contract worth upwards of $300 million.

Correa entered free agency looking for a $300 million contract. And it is possible that Baltimore is currently presenting the highest offer for Correa. If this deal were to come to fruition, the Orioles would not be the only team that finished below .500 in 2021 to sign a star player. On Wednesday, it was announced the Colorado Rockies signed Kris Bryant to a seven-year contract worth $182 million.

Baltimore has labored for a significant number of years and has not made the postseason since 2016. Their rebuilding process has taken longer than anticipated but there have been positive signs as of late. Cedric Mullins enjoyed a breakout campaign in 2021, and top prospect Adley Rutschman is expected to make his big league debut at some point in 2022. Adding Correa into the mix would provide the team with a key player whom they could build around for years to come.

While the Orioles would likely fail to be competitive in 2022 even with Carlos Correa at shortstop, they could begin to make some noise in the American League East as early as 2023.

We will see if the Orioles can accomplish the same feat as the Rockies and sign their franchise-changing star.
