The Cincinnati Reds are interested in free-agent infielder Howie Kendrick, according to Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic. The Miami Marlins and Tampa Bay Rays have also expressed interest in the veteran.
Kendrick is coming off arguably the strongest season of his big-league career, as he slashed .344/.395/.572 with 17 home runs and 62 RBI over 370 plate appearances with the Washington Nationals.
He also had a stellar postseason, winning NLCS MVP and bashing the go-ahead home run in Game 7 of the World Series to help the Nationals win their first championship.
Kendrick has spent the last two and a half years in Washington.
The 36-year-old was originally selected by the Anaheim Angels in the 10th round of the 2002 MLB Draft.
He made his major league debut in 2006, slashing .285/.314/.416 with four long balls and 30 RBI across 283 trips to the dish. He followed that up by registering a slash line of .322/.347/.450 with five dingers and 39 RBI through 353 plate appearances in 2007.
Kendrick spent the first nine seasons of his career with the Angels, making one All-Star team in 2011 while slashing .285/.338/.464 with 18 homer and 63 RBI over 583 trips to the dish.
He then moved to the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2015, spending two mostly disappointing years with the club, posting an OPS of .746 and .691, respectively, in those seasons.
After his brief stay with the Dodgers, Kendrick linked up with the Philadelphia Phillies in 2017, but lasted just a half of a season there before being traded to the Nationals.
Kendrick owns a lifetime slash line of .294/.337/.431 with 125 home runs. He is capable of playing all three infield positions and has even moonlighted as an outfielder throughout his MLB tenure.
