The Houston Astros have identified their replacement at manager after the retirement of Dusty Baker, and are set to announce Joe Espada as the club's next manager, according to Brian McTaggart of MLB.com

The Astros are expected to announce the official hiring of Joe Espada as manager on Monday.

Dusty Baker, 74, managed the Astros for the last four seasons, winning the AL Pennant in 2021 and the World Series in 2022. The Astros won 90 games in Baker's last year as a manager. Baker finished his incredible managerial career with 2,183 wins in 26 seasons with the San Francisco Giants, Chicago Cubs, Cincinnati Reds, Washington Nationals and Houston Astros.

Astros promote from within for next manager in Joe Espada

Replacing Baker will be Joe Espada, who has been with Houston since 2018 as their bench coach. Espada will be the first managerial hire by General Manager Dana Brown. Espada previously coached for the Yankees and Marlins before landing with Houston.

Espada never reached the majors as a player, but quickly moved up the ranks as a coach. He has interviewed for multiple managerial openings in the past, but will have his first head job with the Astros after being promoted within by Brown.

Espada, 48, was born in Puerto Rico and will become the second Latino manager for the Astros in club history. Espada was the bench coach for Dusty Baker on the 2022 World Series team.

The Astros have enjoyed an incredible run of recent success with Espada on staff, making the last seven ALCS in a row.

With Joe Espada taking over as manager for Houston, only the Milwaukee Brewers and San Diego Padres still have managerial vacancies to fill.
