The Los Angeles Angels have had some promising teams in recent years, led by one of the best players in baseball in center fielder Mike Trout, though the three-time MVP hasn't been enough to get the team over the hump to the playoffs. Los Angeles hasn't made the postseason since 2014 and has clinched a playoff berth one time in the last 12 years. And yet, the Angels have never finished with less than 72 wins during that span. It's an astonishing level of mediocrity that has frustrated fans and players alike. That's why the club went out and brought in an All-Star caliber starting pitcher in Noah Syndergaard, who previously pitched for the New York Mets. Syndergaard, who was on the 2015 Mets squad that made it to the World Series, knows what it takes for an organization to make it that far. Syndergaard spoke to Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic and detailed just how frustrated the Angels' franchise is with their playoff drought.
“I see a lot of what I saw in 2015, just the overall grit and bad-ass persona, playing with a chip on our shoulder. It’s been a while since the Angels made the playoffs. This is my first year here. The overall tone is they’re kind of all sick of this s—.”
Syndergaard didn't hold back, saying that the Angels are “sick of this s***” in regard to the franchise's playoff drought.
The former Mets' pitcher even made the comparison of the feeling around his former organization ahead of their World Series berth to the feeling around Los Angeles' club ahead of the 2022 campaign.
With a team featuring two-way star and 2021 American League MVP Shohei Ohtani, another former MVP in Trout, Syndergaard, and rising prospect Jo Adell, there's reason to believe that the best is yet to come for the Angels.
