It is not a secret that Shohei Ohtani is the biggest prize out there in MLB free agency. The one thing the Japanese superstar wants to be classified, though, is the fluidity of his movements behind the scenes, which is also why Los Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts has seemingly found himself in a bit of hot water.

On Tuesday, Roberts shared with reporters that the Dodgers had a meeting at Dodger Stadium, prompting fans and observers to wonder whether that revelation was enough to seriously hurt Los Angeles' chances of landing the two-time American League Most Valuable Player.

Dodgers GM surprised by Roberts' Shohei Ohtani revelation

Dodgers had a meeting with Shohei Ohtani.

Dodgers general manager Brandon Gomes, according to Bob Nightengale of USA TODAY, was even taken aback by Roberts' candidness to the media with regard to Los Angeles' pursuit of Shohei Ohtani.

“Dodgers GM Brandon Gomes said he was surprised by manager Dave Roberts’ candidness about Shohei Ohtani and their private meeting. He steadfastly refuses to talk about their pursuit.”

In his defense, Roberts said that he merely was answering a question before he spilled the details.

I don't feel like lying is something I do. I was asked a question. It's going to come out at some point,” Roberts said (h/t Anthony Castrovince of MLB.com).

Even if Roberts stayed quiet and did not say as much, it's not a surprise to learn that the Dodgers are after Shohei Ohtani. Every team in the big leagues should at least try to lure Ohtani, who played his first five seasons in the majors with the Los Angeles Angels.
