With the floodgates now once again open in free agency, all eyes are currently on free agents such as longtime Atlanta Braves first baseman Freddie Freeman. As it stands, Freeman has two notable suitors that have an interest in coming to terms with him on a deal.

For one, as noted by MLB Network’s Jon Heyman, the New York Yankees are still “in” on the Freeman sweepstakes. However, the Yankees are facing an uphill battle over a matter that is simply out of their control, which centers on geographical reasons.

While Freeman spends the season living in Atlanta, Georgia, he does live out in Southern California during the offseason.

NBC LA’s Michael J. Duarte further noted that Freeman’s free agency decision would reportedly come down to “what’s best for his family.” His wife, Chelsea, would much prefer to “remain in the south.”

Freeman is also garnering interest from the Los Angeles Dodgers. On Friday, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts confirmed the veteran slugger is in “discussion” for the team.

Overall, the Dodgers do not have a notable hole to fill at first base, considering that Max Muncy is currently slated to be the team’s starter at the position for the 2022 campaign. Muncy did recently note he would be open to making a move over to second base in order to accommodate for Freeman should the Dodgers sign him.

The wait is still on for Freeman’s final decision on this matter, whether it will be a return to the Braves or a blockbuster move elsewhere.
