One of the first real big pieces on the trade market is set to have a new home. The Oakland Athletics have acquired Starling Marte from the Miami Marlins.
Marte was one of the best bats available and now he heads all the way to the west coast from the east coast. Marte had made it known he wanted to stay with the Marlins but the two sides failed to reach terms on an extension, putting him right in the mix during the trade deadline. And now, he has a new home with the Athletics.

The new Athletics outfielder was having a tremendous year for the Marlins, hitting .306 with an OPS of .859. He's a versatile outfielder that can play all over and does well pretty much anywhere in the lineup.
Oakland is clearly trying to stack up while they try to chase down the Astros in the AL West. If that doesn't work out, the Athletics will be right in the mix for the wildcard in the AL. And now, they have another solid bat to add to the lineup.
The Marlins made an unpredictable postseason appearance a year ago during the shortened season and expectations for this year were relatively unknown. Instead of building off of those successes in 2020, Miami has faded well off the mark in the AL East, thus putting them into sell mode. They have some great young pitching and now they have added more in this trade with the Athletics that sent Marte to Oakland.
