Robinson Cano is back after he was suspended last year. And he set the tone for the Mets lineup in their Opening Day victory over the Nationals. He spent 2021 watching New York's lineup labor and the team fall off in the second half. But he believes the team is poised for a rebound in 2022. Cano discussed what kind of mindset the Mets need to have leading into the the year.
“It’s not about putting up individual numbers, it’s about finding a way to win.”
Cano dropped down a bunt to go against the shift for a base hit on Opening night as well. The play displayed just how well he knows the game. He explained why he decided to bunt in that situation.
“Whatever it takes. That’s what I was thinking, get something started because we’ve got a lot of good hitters on this team and we can turn that into something.”
Robinson Cano then commented on New York's lineup and how they have improved from last year.
“We’ve got a lot of guys this year who know how to play the game, who know how to move a runner over and how to get guys in from second base. We have guys who know how to win games.”
Last season, the Mets were unable to move runners over in clutch situations. They failed to manufacture runs which led to a rough time on offense.
Robinson Cano will look to continue setting the tone and doing everything possible to help the Mets enjoy a successful 2022 season.
