The New York Yankees have come to terms on a minor league deal with former All-Star pitcher Danny Salazar, according to Univision Deportes' Mike Rodriguez.
Yankees general manager Brian Cashman has continued to provide second chances to former All-Star starting pitchers, and now Salazar is the latest hurler to receive an opportunity in the team’s minor league system. For one, the Yankees signed Shelby Miller to a minor league contract in March, and he has responded to the call by notching a 2.92 ERA in 12 1/3 innings pitched so far at Triple-A.
Salazar has not featured in the majors since the 2019 season, and he has logged a mere four total innings pitched in the last four years.
Article Continues BelowInjuries marred Salazar's final years with the now-Cleveland Guardians. A nagging shoulder injury sidelined him for the entirety of the 2018 season. More so, a groin injury ended up putting him on the shelf for the rest of the 2019 campaign after his August start against the Houston Astros in that season.
Cleveland wound up releasing him following the 2019 season, as he capped off his run with the team after posting a 3.82 ERA in 591 1/3 innings pitched coupled with making an All-Star appearance in the 2016 campaign.
It remains to be seen on just when Salazar will be provided with a chance to pitch at any level for the first time in three years.
