New York Yankees slugger Giancarlo Stanton is temporarily out of commission, as he's hit the 10-day injury list with a lower-body injury that was initially thought as a right calf strain. That's not the case apparently, with Yankees manager Aaron Boone clarifying on Wednesday that Stanton's issue is an ankle inflammation, per Lindsey Adler of The Athletic.

Giancarlo Stanton does *not* have a calf strain, Aaron Boone says. It’s ankle inflammation, he says.

Adler also reports that the Yankees don't see Stanton spending more than 10 days on the injured list.

Aaron Boone says they don’t want Giancarlo Stanton to further aggravate the ankle soreness, and hopes he’ll only need 10 days on the IL.

With Stanton sidelined, the Yankees will have to source his usual production at the plate somewhere else. In Wednesday's 2-0 win over the Baltimore Orioles to end a three-game homestand, the Yankees put Gleyber Torres fourth on the batting order, which is usually Stanton's spot. Torres delivered, going 1 of 3 and scoring on an error in the bottom of the fourth, which turned out to be the last run scored of the series.

Losing Stanton for multiple games will make things harder for the Yankees to keep their pace as the leading team in the American League East division, especially when considering the fact that he's been hitting .285/.339/.523 with a .862 OPS this season, thus far.

At the moment, Stanton is expected by the Yankees to return to action in the first week of June, likely during a three-game homestand versus the Detroit Tigers.
